I relied on my own strength and ability to control any situation at hand, only to feel burdensome when I ultimately fell short.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAs a competitive dancer, I quickly learned how to please and impress others around me.  I sought the fleeting approval of the world and was weighed down by perfectionism and morphing myself to be who others needed me to be.   The continual striving only brought anxiety and exhaustion into my life.  It wasn’t until I met Jesus that I took a sigh of relief. Not just good like the flowers and animals, but \u003cspan\u003every good\u003c\/span\u003e! How much more will God provide for His children, who were created in His image.  Jesus instructs us “Therefore do not be anxious, saying “What shall we eat or what shall we drink or what shall we wear? For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly father knows that you need them all, but seek first the kingdom of righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” (\u003cspan\u003eMatthew 6:31-6:33)\u003c\/span\u003e Even today when anxiety creeps in, I must rehearse and remember these truths to seek first the Kingdom of God and know I am beloved and provided for. Sin and shame belong to us. Daniel’s passage offers insight into Micah’s passage where God states mercy is to be loved. \u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e Our instinct is not to practice mercy, but rather to seek justice or revenge.  \u003c\/span\u003eImagine for a moment if mercy did not belong to God. What if He only loves us? Being loved is wonderful, but to a sinner, no mercy would destine us all into hell.  Spoiler alert, we are all sinners.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003eA Christian definition of mercy is the gift of undeserving kindness and compassion from God.   Mercy is certainly a challenging discipline, especially since the \u003c\/span\u003eoffender may be justly accused. In God’s case, this would be 100% true. We are all guilty and undeserving of His mercy. However, our God is gentle. Our God is patient. Our God is love and we are so blessed that He mercifully forgives us through the sacrificial blood of Jesus Christ.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s2\"\u003eAs Christians, we should rejoice as recipients of God’s mercy.  We should also give mercy to those who are offenders, enemies, and disrupters in our lives. Our Father sent His only son to be unjustly accused, beaten, and murdered so we may have salvation. In the chaos of our forgetful minds, this we shall never forget. How unworthy are we in our disobedience, pride, and sinful nature to be washed white as snow by the perfect lamb slain?  How unworthy of this everlasting love, yet it has been freely given to us in Christ. Wow! In a broken world we have hope in the Lamb who overcame all sin and death.  In Him we don’t have to search for our identity in the world because we are “the called and chosen and faithful.” (Revelation 17:14 NIV) Faithfully we can go through this life on earth with our eyes set above, knowing Jesus is the victor.  Through our pains, heartaches and anxieties we have hope in the God of our salvation.  The One in heaven seated at the right hand of the Father, the One whom people from every nation, tongue, and tribe will soon all proclaim as King! What a gift of grace to cling to this hope today, tomorrow, and the rest of our days as sojourners in this world longing to worship and serve with all the saints in our Savior’s everlasting kingdom.
